Mark Lawrenson has issued his prediction for Wednesday’s clash between Liverpool and Burnley at Turf Moor, plumping for a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

The Reds come off the back of a last-minute 1-0 victory over Everton on Sunday thanks to a stoppage time goal from Divock Origi, which means that they remain in second place in the Premier League below Manchester City.

The pundit expects Liverpool to run out as 2-0 winners at Turf Moor, but reckons that Jurgen Klopp will switch his side around a bit for this match.

“Liverpool needed Jordan Pickford’s error to hand them victory in Sunday’s Merseyside derby, but they still got the job done and, in the Premier League, that is what they have been doing all season,” he told BBC Sport.

“Reds boss Jurgen Klopp played 4-2-3-1 against Everton and brought Xherdan Shaqiri into the team. He could do the same here, but it looks like Roberto Firmino needs a rest, so Klopp might have to shuffle his pack a little to get the result he wants.”

OPINION

It is hard to see anything other than a Liverpool win here, as Burnley have been struggling for a while now. They cannot seem to get a string of results together, which means that they now find themselves in the bottom three with just nine points to their name. Lawrenson is right – Klopp may switch around his players for this match, as like he said, Firmino looks like he could have a rest. Even so, they will be more than capable of coping without the Brazilian with the level of talent that is within the side. Yes, they only won on Sunday thanks to a key mistake from Everton, but that victory only goes to show that sometimes you need to win ugly. They are not likely to face the same fate here at Burnley and they will be expected by the fans to maintain their unbeaten run in the league.
