Gary Lineker credited Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker with helping Jurgen Klopp’s gamble pay off against Burnley on Wednesday.

The Match of the Day host seemed to be referring to the fact that the German manager had gambled by making several changes to the team that starting the clash with Everton on Sunday.

However Lineker shared that the gamble clearly paid off thanks to a ‘sensational’ save by Alisson which lead to Xherdan Shaqiri scoring in stoppage time  to secure the Reds a 3-1 victory.

“Klopp’s gamble pays off thanks to a sensational save from Alisson which led to a breakaway for Shaqiri to clinch it at 3-1,” tweeted the 58-year-old via his verified account.

“Great tonight.”

OPINION

Klopp would have had egg on his face if the Reds had failed to beat Burnley and after they went a goal down against the Clarets, he was probably regretting making so many changes. Yet in a game where rarely-used players such as Alberto Moreno and Joel Matip featured, the Reds were still able to secure the win. The clash with Burnley is the type of match that the Reds dropped points last season and it shows how they have improved in the current campaign. While some may claim that the football the Reds are producing isn’t as exciting as it previously was, supporters would more likely want to see trophies lifted than be entertained and end up empty handed. However if Klopp is able to keep his side winning and up the quality in performances, then fans would be even happier than they already are. It’s interesting that Lineker credits Alisson with the assist for Klopp’s gamble as it shows how important it is having a fantastic goalkeeper who is able to be relied on is.
