Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane is rated as a major doubt for their trip to Burnley on Wednesday with a foot injury sustained over the weekend, as reported by reliable journalist Paul Joyce.

Joyce, northern football correspondent at The Times, reported on his personal Twitter account on Monday that the Senegal international suffered a cut to his foot during their 1-0 Merseyside derby win over Everton.

It is claimed that star forward Mane did not train with the rest of the squad on Monday ahead of their trip to Turf Moor to take on a struggling Clarets side.

OPINION

This is a big blow for Liverpool, but not one which should affect their performance tomorrow. Mane is obviously a key player for Jurgen Klopp going forward, but the Reds boss was always likely to make changes for this one amid a hectic schedule. Rotation is key for every Premier League boss during periods like this, especially when coming up against a team like Burnley, who are in a real rut. The Clarets have won just two games all season in the league and are mired in the relegation zone, a far cry from their impressive campaign last time out which saw them qualify for the Europa League play-offs. Liverpool should have more than enough firepower to comfortably see off Burnley without Mane, who will hopefully be ready to return at the weekend against Bournemouth in a match which is likely to stretch the Reds a bit more than Wednesday’s encounter.
