Jamie Redknapp heaped praise on Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah ahead of the Reds taking on Everton at Anfield on Sunday.

The Sky Sports pundit shared that he thought the 26-year-old winger achieved an ‘astronomical’ feat by scoring as many goals as he did in his 2017/18 campaign.

“He has, what we have seen with his goals is pretty much the same as last year, you look at those goals he scored last year where he is cutting in on his left foot and bending it into the top corner, he loves that,” said Redknapp on Sky Sports’ Main Event (December 2nd, 11:37).

“He’s so good at it, he uses players to bend the ball around, he’s a phenomenal player and perhaps as Graeme (Souness) said he hasn’t hit the heights as last year, but for someone to play in a wide area and get the number of goals he did last year was just astronomical.

“They still play in a three, with Firmino, Mane and Salah, he predominately plays on the right so you don’t see him scoring goals from just anywhere, he doesn’t have the license to go everywhere, so it’s incredible.”

Salah has played 19 times this season across all competition for the Reds, scoring nice goals and creating four in the process.

OPINION

Salah scored 44 goals in 52 outings last season and regularly lit up Anfield with his goalscoring antics. The winger may not be drowning in goals this season in the same way, but seven goals in 13 league matches is nothing to turn your nose up at. There has been lots of coverage about Salah struggling this season, but by all accounts that is harsh. As Redknapp pointed out the Egyptian winger achieved impressive stats last season by hitting the back of the net regularly and people are clearly expecting too much of him. Salah at the moment is a victim of having rose the bar too high for himself as people seem to expect him to score every time he appears. While some of his display this season have been a concern, due to him not looking sharp enough, it’s only a matter of time before everyone is drooling over him again.
