Alan Shearer shared he couldn’t ignore the brilliant performance of Watford defender Jose Holebas when naming his Team of the Week and this saw him snub Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson in the process.

The pundit revealed his Premier League Team of the Week on Monday via his verified Instagram account and was quickly asked why Robertson hadn’t made the cut by a fan after his performance in the 3-1 win over Manchester United.

“As I didn’t pick him this week! As Holebas was brilliant also” replied Shearer on Instagram.

OPINION

Robertson was amazing against Manchester United and a possible contender for the MOTM award. The 24-year-old left-back’s crossing in the game may have been below his usual standard but the rest of his performance was stunning. Robertson burst up and down the flank like he had tons of energy even when the game was nearing its final stages. Given that the Reds always love getting a win over Manchester United, Robertson likely weaved his way into supporters’ hearts, if he wasn’t there already. For this reason it’s easy to see why one fan had to publicly question Shearer’s TOTW. However it is worth nothing the BBC pundit named three Liverpool players so he needed to see other teams represented in his side by all accounts. Holebas deserves his place in Shearer’s TOTW as he was a notable presence for Watford in their 3-2 win over Cardiff City on Saturday. Hopefully for Robertson’s sake and because he deserves it, he’ll be able to make Shearer’s next team.
