Chris Sutton warned Liverpool to write Bayern Munich off at their peril when the two side’s meet in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The outspoken pundit shared that the German giants might not be the team they once were but that Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Robert Lewandowski were all still capable of being gamechangers.

However on positive note, Sutton added that he couldn’t see Bayern being able to cope with Liverpool’s pace and dynamism so was predicting the Reds to progress to the next stage.

“Bayern may not be the great team they once were but write them off at your peril,” wrote Sutton in an article for the Daily Mail.

“Real Madrid were talked down around this time last year and they won the competition for the third season in a row.

“With gamechangers like Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Robert Lewandowski they are still a handful for any team.

“Yet despite Liverpool’s poor away form in Europe, I cannot see how Bayern’s ageing team will be able to live with their blistering dynamism and pace.

Predicted winners: LIVERPOOL.”

OPINION

Sutton lists several reasons why the Reds should be worried about facing Bayern Munich. The BT Sport pundit points out the fabulous attacking trio in their team, the Reds’ away form in Europe this season and the fact everyone wrote Real Madrid off last season before they went on to win the tournament. Yet despite making a compelling case for why the Reds should be preparing for life without the Champions League to deal with after the round of last 16, he still backs the English club to emerge victorious. Bayern’s current team does contain several pairs of ageing legs and it is hard to see them being able to cope with the Reds’ pace if Jurgen Klopp’s side are firing on all cylinders. Yet it’s worth noting that the Reds have to perform to their best to be able to take down Bayern Munich, as if they’re not at the races, the German giants will use their experience to sweep Klopp’s team aside.
