Steve Sidwell was blown away by Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana during the Reds’ 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The retired Premier League star, who is now regularly heard on BBC Radio 5 Live, was covering the Reds’ game for the station and heaped praise on the 30-year-old attacking midfielder.

Sidwell described Lallana as a joy to watch and shared that he wished he was able to watch him play more regularly for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“How good is Adam Lallana? He’s just a joy to watch,” said the BBC pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport, which can be heard on listen again (1hr, 28 minutes).

“The way he just glides across the pitch, both feet, his change of direction…just wish we could see more of him playing, obviously staying fit.”

OPINION

Lallana is on the fringes of the Reds’ squad but it’s not due to lack of ability. The midfielder constantly finds himself rooted to the sidelines due to injury problems and this has seen him drop down the pecking order at Anfield due to his boss having to find other options in the player’s absence. Lallana was making only his fourth league appearance of the season against the Cherries after suffering several niggles already this campaign, that have seen him ruled out of games. The 30-year-old didn’t start Saturday’s clash but came on as a substitute in the second half. The midfielder made the most of the minutes he was given as he was the one who spotted Mohamed Salah in space ahead of the winger grabbing his hat-trick. It would be fantastic for the Reds’ title campaign if the midfielder was able to stay fit but you just wouldn’t back him to do so at this point. Hopefully he’ll be able to prove everyone wrong but until he strings several games together in a row, there is a huge question mark over his head.
