If there is one Liverpool player who has gone down hill in recent times, most fans would answer with Jordan Henderson.

Once a rock in the first team, Henderson has since been overshadowed by some new arrivals to the midfield, Naby Keita and Fabinho.

However, it is Fabinho who has outshone the England international in recent times, and his performance against Everton gave him a strong case to remain in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI for their clash against Burnley on Wednesday.

He was mightily impressive and demonstrated why it was worth the effort to sign him and rest him in the first place – which means that Klopp must resist the urge to recall Henderson when they face the Clarets.

Henderson received a red card when they played Watford a few weeks ago, which means he missed the Everton game due to suspension – but that does not mean he should automatically be rewarded with a first team place.

It would be unfair on Fabinho to suddenly be dropped from the starting line-up, as he has not done anything to warrant being axed.

In fact, Henderson must be sweating right now, as his first team spot is being seriously compromised by the brilliance of the Brazilian, who does not look like he will be slowing down any time soon.

Including Henderson in the midfield this season has weakened the side somewhat and has put them in vulnerable positions at times, which of course is no coincidence is it?

The 28-year-old mainstay has a tendency to pass backwards all of the time as well as sitting deep in his own half, something which has not proved dividends this season.

Fabinho is the future of the Liverpool midfield and he offers something different to what the fans have experienced before.

Klopp must resist the urge to start Henderson, as he is starting to have zero impact in the matches that he features in.
