When you consider where this Liverpool team couldĀ strengthen, there aren’t may areas that pop out as needing an upgrade.

They have a world class goalkeeper, a phenomenal defence and outstanding attackers. But perhaps there could be some room for improvement in midfield.

Perhaps, then, the club should think about going in for Paris Saint-Germain star Adrien Rabiot in January. The Daily Mirror reported on Saturday that the Reds could be about to reignite their interest in the Frenchman next month.

Rabiot has been cast aide by the French heavyweights due to his refusal to sign a new contract with the club, and PSG are said to be determined to cash in on him in the winter transfer window before he leaves for nothing in the summer.

He could be worth a look for Liverpool. They have several terrific central midfielders, but no one quite of the quality of the technically-superb French international.

Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho are all industrious types who do just as much off the ball as on it, while Xherdan Shaqiri does his best work further up the pitch.

Georginio Wijnaldum and Naby Keita could be considered closer to the Rabiot mould, but neither man has the ability to dictate games from deep like the 23-year-old.

Signing Rabiot is exactly the type of thing that would turn Liverpool into a true European superpower a la Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.

Suddenly they would have one of the world finest central midfielders in their ranks, to go with one of the world’s best goalkeepers (Alisson), defenders (Virgil van Dijk) and attackers (Mohamed Salah).

It seems like a no brainer for the Reds; the only problem would be winning the race to sign him. There will undoubtedly be many teams willing to end his Paris exile.

But Liverpool must at least try to bring him in. And, if they are successful, this could be just the thing to take them to the next level.
