Young Liverpool striker Bobby Duncan will return to action on Monday (21 January) after sustaining a nose injury in training.

The 17-year-old received an elbow to the face during a training session the day before the Under-23s clash against Brighton two days ago, which meant he was sidelined after suffering a nose injury.

However, he is now on track to face Accrington Stanley for next Monday’s FA Youth Cup match after scoring a total of 19 goals so far this season.

“Unfortunately Bobby got a whack on his nose in training on Sunday which meant he wasn’t available for Monday night,” Under-23s boss Neil Critchley said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“It wouldn’t stop bleeding for 15 minutes. He went for a scan but thankfully it’s not broken. It’s just badly swollen and it has ruined his good looks for a little bit!

“But hopefully it will go down in the next few days and he’ll be okay to get back into it.”

OPINION

Duncan has been in prolific form this season, scoring 19 goals since his summer move from Manchester City, so he would no doubt have been a major loss to them when they played Brighton on Monday. He will be crucial to the youth team’s success this season, and if he carries on banging in the goals, he will soon attract the attention of Jurgen Klopp that little bit more. Critchley will no doubt be jumping for joy that one of his star assets is on course to feature in the Cup tie next Monday. Once again, Duncan will be crucial to their hopes of qualifying for the next round of the competition, so fingers crossed he recovers in time. It will not be long before the senior team will be knocking on his door, as he is an exceptional talent. Yes, admittedly scoring goals for fun at youth level does not necessarily translate at senior level – but there would be no harm in seeing what the young dazzler can do in the future.
