Liverpool are among the clubs ready to welcome Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot on a free this summer, according to L’Equipe

The French newspaper report that the PSG star has informed Premier League rivals Tottenham that he is not interested in a move to north London.

L’Equipe claim that the Reds are one of four teams now waiting to sign the 23-year-old on a free when his contract runs out in the summer, with Rabiot currently frozen out by PSG bosses after refusing to sign a new deal.

Paris United previously reported that Liverpool had entered the race to sign the France international this month, but a summer free now looks more likely.

OPINION

It was always fanciful to think that Liverpool would swoop for Rabiot this month, with Jurgen Klopp having so many midfield options to choose from already. The 23-year-old would likely spend much of this season on the bench as he acclimatises himself to England and the Premier League, and the fee spent this month would be a bit of a waste. With just a few days left in the window and only Spurs pushing to sign the France international it looks likely that he will still be available come the summer, which is when it makes most sense for the Reds to make their move. Rabiot is thought to be keen on a move to Anfield, and that should help their cause. Liverpool would be securing the services of a hugely-talented young midfielder who is wanted by some of the continent’s top clubs, for free. Such a move would be a masterstroke, and one which would improve an already-brilliant Reds midfield.
