Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to recall playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri in place of James Milner for Liverpool’s clash with Leicester City on Wednesday.

The former England international is suspended for the game having been sent off against Crystal Palace last time out, and the explosive Shaqiri, with his pace and power, is the obvious choice to come in and change the dimensions of the Reds.

Klopp must carefully consider his options as his team return from a week and a half hiatus against the Foxes, with just the one enforced alteration likely to occur. It’s expected that Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Milner’s unavailability will see midfielder Fabinho shifted to right back.

Shaqiri will likely then move into a midfield role, providing Klopp with another potential game-changer on the field of play against Claude Puel’s side.

Alisson is almost certain to start between the sticks, as the Brazilian looks to continue his fine debut season in England. As mentioned, Fabinho is the likely starter at right back, with old reliable Andrew Robertson set to keep his place at left back.

Joel Matip returned to the starting line up against Palace and put a decent enough shift in, meaning that he will most likely get the nod alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Reds defence.

With Fabinho set to move into defence a gap emerges in central midfield. Naby Keita can expect to switch to a more central role having played wide left against Palace.

Shaqiri will then likely join attackers Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in support of frontman Mohamed Salah.
