Liverpool are one of several Premier League sides tracking Bruges winger Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims on their transfer centre [14/01; 15:05] that the Reds have taken a look at the 21-year-old, who excelled for the Belgian side this season before picking up an ankle injury in October.

Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are both reportedly interested in the youngster as well, while Groeneveld has previously claimed that Manchester City have enquired about him.

The Dutch international has five goals and four assists in 15 games this campaign, and scored on his full debut for the Netherlands against Belgium in October, while AC Milan are said to have previously had a £9million bid for him rejected.

OPINION

This is an interesting one. Groeneveld is clearly a highly sought-after talent who has impressed a lot of big teams in Europe this season. He excelled in the Champions League group stages earlier this campaign, memorably scoring a stunning strike past Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak. While he has operated as a wing back for his club he is thought to be more of a winger naturally, and that is obviously more of where he would fit in at Liverpool. The Reds obviously have a number of stellar attacking talents as it is, but it’s always good to have one eye on the future. Groeneveld is clearly an excellent young player and you can never have enough of those. Whether he would want to join Liverpool and face an uncertain level of first team football remains to be seen, but he makes sense as a next generation sort of purchase. Besides, he could always be someone that Jurgen Klopp signs and then loans immediately back to Bruges. That could work.
