Liverpool fringe men Divock Origi and Simon Mignolet are both set to remain on Merseyside until the end of the season, according to HLN.

The Belgian outlet claims that the plan is for the two players to continue in red until the summer, despite neither man featuring regularly this campaign.

Origi is said to be free to leave the club, but a summer exit is preferable to a January one. Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in the Belgian international, but Origi is thought to be aiming higher than Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

A January sale for Mignolet is thought to be non-negotiable, with the 30-year-old aware that manager Jurgen Klopp wants to keep him at the club for the entirety of the season.

OPINION

It’s no surprise that this is where things stand for these two players. Mignolet is effectively stuck in the mud at Anfield at this moment in time. As soon as Loris Karius was allowed to leave in the summer and Alisson was brought in it was clear that the Belgian would have to remain on Merseyside as the number two behind the Brazilian. He has taken to his role dutifully, but he will undoubtedly be pushing for his exit come the summer. Origi, meanwhile, reminded everyone at Anfield of what he could do when he scored the late winner in Liverpool’s derby day victory over Everton at the start of last month, but has since faded back into obscurity. He is a talented player, just not talented enough to make the grade at Anfield. It makes sense to keep him around as a squad player until the end of the season when he, too, should be allowed to move on.
