Liverpool somehow managed to improve after the £142million sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona a year ago, with their attack seeming to click into place after the departure of the Brazil international.

However, if you were to ask Liverpool fans whether they would take the 26-year-old back at Anfield, the vast majority would surely say yes.

Coutinho was their best player for large periods during his time at the club, with the attacking midfielder becoming a real hero and favourite on the terraces on Merseyside.

It is fair to say his move to Barca has not gone as well as it could have, but it is still shocking to hear that an exit is already being touted in the press.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United have made their interest known to Coutinho and his representatives.

The player himself is currently not considering an exit from the Camp Nou, with his family being happy with life in Barcelona and him being determined to play his way back into contention after losing his starting place.

However, it is said that things could change in the summer if his situation remains the same between now and then, and that could open the door for a return to the Premier League.

Coutinho signing for rivals Manchester United would be unthinkable for Liverpool, in both footballing and emotional terms, and they must launch a move to secure a sensational return for the Brazilian in the summer.

The Reds will need all the firepower they can get to cement their place in the top echelon of English football under Jurgen Klopp, especially if they go on to win the Premier League this season.

Bringing back Coutinho, a player who knows the club and the league well, would be a masterstroke for the club as they look to secure their status as Premier League giants once again.
