Liverpool cannot afford for Origi to leave

The prospect of Harry Kane’s recent ankle injury damaging anybody other than Tottenham in this year’s title race seems bizarre, but Liverpool must be careful that it doesn’t come back to bite them.

With Kane out, Spurs could be forced into looking for a new striker this January, and the Telegraph has suggested that Belgian forward Divock Origi would be the ideal man to fill the England captain’s boots during his absence.

The 23-year-old has barley featured for the Reds so far this season, except of course his vital intervention in the Merseyside derby, but he has proven that he can still be a great option in a cameo role, and it would be lunacy to allow a player to move to a team that could still have such a massive impact on the title race.

Maybe it’s spiteful or selfish, but Liverpool have the best chance they have had in nearly three decades to win a title, and they cannot afford to be strengthening any of the teams around them.

Origi may be far down the pecking order at Anfield, but if Kane’s injury will have taught the rest of the top six anything, it’s that you cannot mess around when it comes to squad depth.

Origin must stay, even if he barely features.
