Adam Lallana probably won’t feature for Liverpool before the end of the month, but Jurgen Klopp must resist the urge to sell him in January.

The German seemingly confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that the English international would be sidelined until at least February after struggling with injuries all season, but the boss must not cash in on a player who has become increasingly surplus to requirements at Anfield.

With the signings of Naby Keita, Fabinho, and Xherdan Shaqiri, along with his torrid run of luck, Lallana has slipped well down the pecking order on Merseyside, but must not be shipped off just yet.

When he is fit, the 30-year-old bring exactly the kind of work ethic and mentality to the side that Jurgen Klopp demands. Lallana has been one of his most ardent disciples since the ex-Borussia Dortmund man came to England, and none of that will change with a spell on the sidelines.

Doubt still remains over Liverpool’s title credentials, despite their four point lead at the top of the table, and a large part of that is down to their lack of recognised strength in depth.

He may be out now, but when he is back, Lallana is a playmaker of criminally underrated talent who will add another dimension to a ferocious attack at the business end of what could be a glorious campaign.

He needs to stay at Liverpool.
