OPINION

Liverpool registered a fairly mediocre 1-1 draw against Leicester at Anfield on Wednesday, and there were plenty of talking points to take away from the game.

Sadio Mane put the hosts off to a fantastic start after slotting home after just three minutes, but a woeful error from left-back Andy Robertson allowed Foxes centre-back Harry Maguire to equalise for the visitors from close range.

Liverpool now have 61 points under their belt after this result, which means they have extended the gap between themselves and Manchester City in second to five points.

Here, Live 4 Liverpool has rounded up the three things learned about the Reds’ draw v Leicester:

Keita needs to be axed imminently

Naby Keita was simply woeful against Leicester, and this is why he is beckoning for the chopping block as soon as possible. The summer signing is showing no signs of improvement in recent weeks despite wowing everyone at the start of the season, and this is simply not good enough from him.

The £120,000-a-week [Spotrac] player is seriously hampering the Reds’ efforts and he is proving to be more of a hinderance than a help. He needs to be axed imminently to save Liverpool’s blushes in the forseeable future.

Matip is a class act

Defender Joel Matip was quite the surprise against the Foxes, wasn’t he? Nobody expected him to be as impressive as he was on Wednesday, but it looks like he has gone out and proved those people wrong.

He was classy on the ball and seemed very assured in his passing, and this has no doubt not gone unnoticed by Klopp. He does not impress very often, but tonight, it was a whole different story. A regular first team place beckons for him if he keeps this up – so fingers crossed.

Robertson had a bad day at the office

Andy Robertson is usually one of the most consistent players on the field for Liverpool, but tonight, that certainly was not the case. It was his error that led to Harry Maguire equalising for the Foxes, which is rare for a player as reliable as him.

Hopefully this was just a bad day at the office for the Scotland international, as it would be awful for both the team and the fans if he went onto have a poor run of form.
