Stan Collymore branded Liverpool “uncharacteristically sluggish” as they limped to a 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Wednesday.

Sadio Mane gave the Reds a dream start after netting just three minutes into the clash, but a defensive error from Andy Robertson allowed Foxes defender Harry Maguire to put his team on level terms with the hosts.

The former Liverpool forward seemed far from impressed by their display, adding how he could not “relax” until his old team opened up a more convincing gap on Manchester City in second place.

“City/Liv both uncharacteristically sluggish….Can’t relax until LFC are 9 clear with 9 or less to play. 5 games to add a 4 more pts then!” he said on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Collymore has got it absolutely spot on here – Liverpool were far from convincing on Wednesday, and it is safe to say that it was one of their most disappointing displays of the season so far. Fans no doubt thought they were in for a treat when Mane put them ahead so early on, but perhaps that jinxed the result for them. Leicester thoroughly deserved to get a goal back and share the spoils with Jurgen Klopp’s players, and they could have nicked the win if they were lucky. The fact that players like Robertson had a mediocre game indicates just how average the team were tonight. They have scraped by in the last few games with tight wins, so it was no surprise that they recorded this result. They have found it hard to win convincingly for a while now, and they even made a meal out of the Crystal Palace match the other week. Klopp and his team need to improve a lot from here on out, otherwise Collymore’s worst fears will come true – City catching up with them.
