Liverpool CEO Peter Moore has sent a message to the club’s supporters after Sunday’s drab goalless draw with Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to make the breakthrough at Old Trafford as they moved a point clear of Manchester City at the head of the Premier League table.

Moore had some words for the supporters after the game: “Thanks to the fans who made the journey to OT today,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Thanks for your support even when we struggled.

“Thanks for your belief in the team playing in one of the toughest away stadiums. And thanks at the end for reminding the world that we are Liverpool, Liverpool, Top of the League.”

OPINION

It’s good to see the club’s CEO come out and recognise the fans for their support on what was a frustrating day at the office for Liverpool. Klopp’s team never really clicked into top gear and it must have been incredibly tough viewing at times for the club’s supporters. Obviously a point at Old Trafford is never a bad thing, but you were left with a sense that the Reds could have done more to try and secure victory. The bottom line, though, as Moore says, is that they are top of the Premier League – no matter the circumstances. Could they be further ahead considering where they were a month and a half ago? Yes. However, the main thing is they remain top of the tree and it’s City who will be doing the chasing down the stretch this season. Moore was pleased with the fans’ support on Sunday and no doubt Klopp was as well. Now the team needs to reward them with a title triumph in a few months time.
