Liverpool youngster Bobby Adekanye is closing in on a summer move to Serie A giants Lazio when his Reds contract expires, according to journalist Neil Jones.

The Liverpool correspondent for Goal reported the news on his personal Twitter account, claiming that his move to Simone Inzaghi’s side is almost complete.

The 20-year-old has other options on the table but a switch to Italy appears to be his number one choice. The Reds starlet has made a big impact in the UEFA Youth League, in particular, this term, bagging two goals in four games for the young Liverpool side.

This is a bit of a shame for Liverpool because Adekanye is obviously a decent prospect, but this is a departure that has been in the works for a while. Lazio have long been the team linked with the youngster and it’s clear that they are now very much in pole position for his signature. Obviously Adekanye has other options, but he seemingly has his heart set on a move to the Italian capital. Moving abroad is very much en vogue for English youngsters at the moment, after the likes of Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson excelled in foreign climes. Whether Adekanye will be able to replicate that sort of success is debatable, but this is clearly the move that he wants. Liverpool aren’t short of talented youngsters at the moment so Jurgen Klopp likely won’t be too upset about this one, but he could use an extra attacking option. However, Rhian Brewster will likely fill that role so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
