The huge impression that young Liverpool full back Adam Lewis has made on manager Jurgen Klopp is the reason left back Alberto Moreno is being allowed to leave the club this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the 19-year-old has made a massive rise through the Reds academy and is so highly thought of by Klopp that he is comfortable with Moreno departing in a few months time.

The Spaniard’s contract is up at the end of the season, leaving Liverpool with no senior back up to first choice left back Andrew Robertson.

However, Lewis is expected to be offered a first team chance at some stage next season, and will look to replicate the impact made by fellow youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold on the opposite side of the defence.

OPINION

This is exciting news for Liverpool supporters everywhere. Moreno’s time at Anfield has hit a dead end, with there appearing to be no way past the impenetrable barrier that is Robertson. The Reds support never really warmed to the error-prone Spaniard as it is, meaning that there are unlikely to be too many on Merseyside upset at his departure. Lewis, though, is someone the home crowd can really get behind. They love an academy product and Lewis sounds like one of the finest emerging from Kirkby at the moment. Liverpool has turned into a real hotbed of talent over the past year or two and Lewis appears to be earmarked as the next youngster to make the step up to the first team. Klopp may have a contingency plan, he might bring an experienced hand in at left back to supplement Robertson and Lewis, but the teenager certainly seems to have caught his manager’s eye so there’s every chance he will serve as the Scot’s sole back up next term.
