BeIN SPORTS pundit Andy Gray has warned Liverpool’s supporters that they could derail their team’s Premier League title bid.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have done tremendously well to get to the point they are at the moment, but Manchester City remain in pole position. Gray is worried that the Reds faithful could ruin things, though.

“You talk about the fans, and they are incredible,” he told beIN SPORTS. “But too much of a part, maybe. I go back to Brendan’s time -Brendan Rodgers. We arrived to watch Chelsea arrive at Anfield, it was like a party almost. Liverpool fans had decided this is our year, we’re winning the trophy and we’re probably winning it today. We’re going to blow away Chelsea and win.

“I don’t know. Sometimes – I know what you’re saying, great help when you want them to lift you – but could the euphoria carry them away again?”

OPINION

This seems like a bit of a stretch, doesn’t it? Does Gray really think that the supporters could ruin Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes by getting too excited? That’s surely not what is going to settle this title race. If anything the Reds fans are too pessimistic about their side’s chances. It seems that many of them believe that it’s inevitable that they will mess this up and City will hold on to their title. It’s unlikely that they’re going to get too carried away. The Liverpool faithful create an unbelievable atmosphere at Anfield, which is surely only going to help them down the stretch this season. At the end of the day the football is played on the pitch and the fans can only affect things so much. And even if the Liverpool supporters are able to impact proceedings it will likely only benefit their team. This just seems like too much of a stretch from Gray.
