Matthijs De Ligt has admitted that he could move to Juventus this summer, but that shouldn’t dissuade Liverpool from trying to bring him to Anfield.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the precocious Dutchman, as reported by the Express, but his latest comments would seemingly give the advantage to Juve in the battle for his services.

As quoted by talkSPORT, he said: “Me at Juve? It could be, but there are also other interested clubs. We’ll see at the right time.”

Clearly, however, nothing is set in stone, and there’s no reason to believe that the teenager couldn’t have his head turned by an offer from elsewhere.

And in many ways, the Reds hold a big advantage over other potential suitors. For one thing, they are one of the most exciting, progressive sides in Europe, with a manager who is almost universally adored.

More importantly, however, De Ligt is international teammates with Virgil van Dijk, and the two have already formed a fearsome defensive partnership for the Netherlands.

There is probably an argument to be made that the Reds don’t exactly need another bright young centre back, with Joe Gomez looking like he could become a real player for the Klopp’s men, but as has been proven on several occasions this season, cover and competition at the back are never a bad thing, and why wouldn’t you try to sign a player of De Ligt’s potential if he became available?

You would have to, and there’s no harm in trying to pull of a major coup.
