talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham has launched a blistering attack on Liverpool left back Andrew Robertson, saying that he should be fined for picking up a booking against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

The former Hull City man was given a yellow card in the late stages of the Reds’ 3-1 victory for a senseless challenge on Leon Goretzka, meaning that he is suspended for the first leg of Liverpool’s Champions League quarter final clash with Porto.

Durham was furious with the Scot: “I think they have to come down hard on Andy Robertson. I think it’s a shocking thing he did yesterday [Wednesday],” he told talkSPORT. “He should be fined by Liverpool for letting his team down.

“He got a yellow card at the end and it was a ridiculous yellow card – Liverpool are through and he gets himself a yellow card which rules him out of the first leg in the quarter-final. He knew he got it wrong straight away but what an idiotic thing to do.”

OPINION

This is just ridiculous from Durham. A yellow card for letting his team down, come on… When does that ever happen? Robertson knows he got it wrong and he shouldn’t have made the challenge, but his suspension for the first leg is punishment enough for a genuine team player like Robertson. He’ll want to be out there in the first leg and so he’ll be hugely frustrated with himself. Jurgen Klopp has likely also had a word with the Scotland captain to ensure he doesn’t make the same mistake again. But to give him an actual fine for picking up a yellow card? That’s just stupid. It’s never going to happen and this is typical of the nonsense Durham spouts to get ears glued to his show. He can’t honestly believe that Robertson should be fined for this, can he? Teams don’t fine players for things like getting a yellow card, besides it wasn’t a red for violent conduct or anything like that. Nope, let’s move on from this one, shall we?
