BBC pundit Danny Gabbidon has heaped praise on Andy Robertson for his role in Liverpool’s opener against Tottenham on Sunday.

The Scottish international captain delivered a sumptuous cross for Roberto Firmino to nod home in the 16th minute and give Jurgen Klopp’s title chasers the lead in a crucial meeting at Anfield.

Taking to Twitter during the match, former Welsh international Gabbidon, who is a regular pundit on BBC radio, said: “Fed Ex delivery from Robertson.”

OPINION

Robertson has been wonderful for the Reds so far this season, and his delivery against Tottenham was the sign of a man at the top of his game. It was a perfectly weighted, devilish delivery that Firmino will have been hugely grateful for, and it gave the Reds a cushion in a crucial match that they had to get something out of. Robertson has come on leaps and bounds in recent years, and he has transformed himself into one of Jurgen Klopp’s go to men when it matters most. Defensively and in the attacking third he has been brilliant this year, and he showed it again with a wonderful display against Spurs. You can’t underestimate the importance of a player like Robertson both for his contributions on the field, and his influence off of it. The options he gives the Reds at both ends of the field are invaluable, and it’s good to see him getting the recognition he deserves.
