Former Liverpool hero Luis Garcia has heaped praise on Anfield star Sadio Mane, describing the Senegalese international as “brilliant”.

The 26-year-old has been in lethal form of late, hitting 11 goals in his last 11 matches, and his efforts have drawn glowing comments from ex-Spanish international Garcia.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “He has been brilliant the whole season, and in these last few games he has been needed, because those games were very difficult.

“The opponents were tight at the back and it was difficult to get chances.

“I think he’s been brilliant, so quick, so good with his feet, the skill that he’s got is fantastic.

“Sometimes in the past he had a few chances and couldn’t score, but now he’s scoring all of them because he is focused. He knows that the team needs those goals, and I think it’s brilliant that the team can call on him.”

OPINION

What can you say about Mane at this point that hasn’t already been said? The Liverpool forward has come on leaps and bounds this season, and has stepped out of Mo Salah’s shadow in recent weeks to become the Reds’ star performer. Admittedly, a large part of that has come out of necessity, but his newfound form will have fans beaming no matter what, and if they can get Salah and Roberto Firmino firing on all cylinders again, it’s hard to see a better front three in Europe. Mane always felt like the most wasteful of that trio, missing easy chances and finishing the harder ones, but this season, and especially in recent weeks, he seems to have turned a real corner, and is bagging goals for fun. Whether it will last for the rest of the season remains to be seen, but right now, the wide man is the most dangerous attacker in England.
