Alan Shearer has said that if Liverpool win their next three games in the Premier League, then the title could be theirs.

He compared the Reds’ current situation to when he won the title with Blackburn Rovers, saying how the pressure has been cranked up that little bit more despite the fact that they could have gone ten points clear two months ago.

The Match of the Day pundit says that if Liverpool can overcome their next three games against Tottenham, Southampton and Chelsea, then they could win the title.

“You can sort of compare [to Blackburn] the pressure and the season that is happening as we see it. Liverpool back in January could have gone ten points clear. [Blackburn] were 12. Slowly but surely, that gap was getting smaller and smaller,” he told the Premier League website.

“The more pressure was being put on us and we were starting to feel it. Something similar is happening to Liverpool. They are going to have to face the pressure that they are facing now. Because now, I know we have been saying it for the last couple of weeks, but now, as of now, I think that these next three games are crucial.

“If Liverpool can get through these next three games, Tottenham, Southampton away, and Chelsea, then I think, it could be theirs. They know that the pressure is cranked right up.”

OPINION

Shearer is absolutely spot on to compare Liverpool’s current situation now to his situation with Blackburn all of those years ago. The Reds could have gone ten points clear at the top of the table in January, but they somehow ended up surrendering it to Manchester City, who are now one point clear of them. However, winning the next three games could see them win the title. City cannot keep up their good run and they are bound to slip up at one point, and if they do, then Liverpool must pounce on it right away. However, these next three games will be very tough for Liverpool, as they cannot underestimate anybody. All of the three teams that they will face all have something to play for as well, so if one thing is certain, it is going to go down to the wire this season.
