Graeme Souness has remarked on the lack of impact Liverpool duo Naby Keita and Fabinho have had on the team since they arrived last summer.

He says that Keita, 24, has not offered much more to the team than they already had before, while Fabinho, 25, has not given them much more either, whilst also commenting on how the Reds do not have the same “sublime vision” of Manchester City.

Souness adds that Liverpool’s attempts to sign Nabil Fekir from Lyon last summer shows the area that Jurgen Klopp feels that the team need to improve upon – a creative player who is capable of scoring goals.

“Liverpool haven’t got the sublime vision of Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva or Bernardo Silva in there as Manchester City have,” he said in his Sunday Times column.

“Jurgen Klopp must see it that way, too, because last summer he brought in Naby Keita — who has not given him any more than he already had — and Fabinho, who hasn’t given Liverpool much more either.

“He also tried to sign Lyons’ Nabil Fekir as a creative, scoring type, so that tells you it’s an area he believes he can improve upon.”

OPINION

The likes of Naby Keita have not made the impact they were expected to make. It all looked promising in the season opener against West Ham, where Keita was arguably one of the best players on the pitch and gave the fans something to be seriously excited about. However, since then, injury has plagued the midfielder’s progress at Anfield, and he has not been able to recover the same sort of form since. This is a shame, as he did have a lot to offer – but as Souness now points out, he has shown recently that he can not really offer much else to the team. As for Fabinho, he was not being utilised at the beginning of the season after struggling to adapt to Liverpool’s style of play. Klopp then slowly introduced him into the first team fold, and he then really started to come into his own with some excellent play. However he hasn’t added too much to the creative threat, so it makes sense why Souness is left questioning his arrival as well as Keita’s when comparing the Reds with Man City.
