Danny Murphy gushed about Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane ahead of the Reds facing Tottenham on Sunday.

The former Liverpool and Spurs player shared that Tony Cascarino was right to suggest that the 26-year-old winger has stepped up before sharing that Mane had gone under the radar a little bit.

“Yeah well you make a great point on Mane, I think he has gone under the radar a little bit, you do get teams setting up thinking about Salah all the time now and that maybe has released Mane a little bit,” said Murphy on talkSPORT (Sunday, March 31st, 9:32am).

“But to win the league, you gotta have other players chipping in, Salah was never going to replicate that unbelievable season from last year.”

Murphy then shared he was predicting the Reds to overcome Spurs on Sunday after talkSPORT host Georgie Bingham highlighted the London club’s poor record at Anfield.

“Well yeah Tottenham are a hell of a good side, they’ve got some wonderful players so, I don’t think it’s gonna be a walk in the park that’s for sure,” stated the former Reds player.

“But I just think with what’s at stake, the supporters today are going to be up for it of course, Liverpool will play with that intensity, I just think they’ve got a bit better quality, I don’t see them slipping up at home.

“They’ve lost one game all year in the league and it’s unbelievable what they’ve done to be honest.”

OPINION

Murphy featured for both Spurs and Liverpool during his playing career, so knows all about the expectations of both clubs’ set of supporters. While the pundit highlights that the Reds have something at stake during Sunday’s game, which will spur them to victory, it’s not like Tottenham’s season is over. Mauricio Pochettino’s side may be out of the title race given how off-the-pace they now are, but they still need to rack up results to secure their place in the top four. Spurs had a dreadful blip in form which ended their title hopes and there are question marks over them as a result. This situation could see Spurs be extra motivated to up their game and beat the Reds as if they do, the doubters will be silenced. However when comparing the Reds’ squad directly with Spurs’, Murphy may have point to suggest that Liverpool just have that little bit extra quality in their locker.
