Fekir comments raise some hope

|

OPINION

Nabil Fekir to Liverpool was the nailed on, big money deal of last summer that somehow never went through.

The switch seemed like an absolute certainty until, for reasons that have remained murky ever since the deal fell through, as reported by the Express.

There was plenty of disappointment in that respect, and the prospect of losing out on a £53million swoop [The Guardian] for a player of Fekir’s quality is one that probably still smarts a little.

Since then, the French international has lifted a World Cup and continued to perform brilliantly for Lyon, and if anything, his stock and reputation has only risen further since he nearly wound up at Anfield last season.

Because of that, you would be hard pushed to find a Liverpool fan who wouldn’t still be interested in bringing in the attacking maestro, and after his latest comments, there might still be hope.

Speaking to Telefoot, he said: “Liverpool? It’s part of a player’s career, but it makes you stronger and you have to move forward.

“I really don’t know what I will do [next summer] but as I said I feel good in Lyon, the president trusts me, that’s good. You will see [if I extend my contract].”

There’s a definite tone of uncertainty on the Frenchman’s comments, and you can’t help feeling that he would still be receptive to the big money move that he thought he last summer, should the opportunity present itself again.

Having hit nine goals and assisted five more in Ligue 1 this season, it’s easy to see why he might believe that he is ready for big transfer at the end of the season, and if you were Jurgen Klopp, you would be more than interested in acquiring his services.

If Fakir is keen, and if the chance is there, why wouldn’t you try and rekindle this one?
