OPINION

Jermaine Jenas may have predicted Liverpool to defeat Tottenham but his remarks ahead of the clash will surely leave many Reds fans concerned.

The BBC pundit shared that he had not only spotted that the Reds’ home performances hadn’t been up to scratch despite their unbeaten run, he believed Spurs were over their recent blip.

Jenas also noted that he didn’t think Manchester City would lose to Manchester United at Old Trafford in the coming weeks, and that no doubt will have Reds fan worried that Pep Guardiola’s side won’t drop enough points in the race for the Premier League title, to see the Reds pip them.

“I think the break for Spurs, the fact they’ve got all their players back is going to be big for them as not only have they had a little break but they’ve been able to get some good minutes into Dele, good minutes into Harry,” said Jenas on BBC Radio 5 Live on Friday, as seen in a clip on the station’s Twitter account.

“Erm I think they are, they’re at the end of the blip they’ve had personally, I think this will be a tough game against a Liverpool side who at home, are not what they were last year, in terms of results maybe, but not, I wouldn’t say the performances have been that when you walk into Anfield, you think they’re gonna steamroll over you like they did last year.

“I know (Reds unbeaten at Anfield in 2019) why I said results have been good but I don’t think they’ve been as convincing as they were last year, and I think that the pressure, I know Spurs are chasing top four, but I think there’s tension chasing down the title…I think you’re right, Liverpool are gonna win the game but it’s a lot tougher than City going to Old Trafford in a weird way.

“I don’t see City losing that game.”

Tottenham were in patchy form ahead of the international break, however Jenas is right to suggest that the pause in fixtures came at the right time for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane got valuable minutes for England and Spurs will no doubt be feeling ready to prove everyone wrong who started to doubt them over recent results at the Reds’ expense.

Also Jenas is spot-on to suggest that the Reds’ record at Anfield while impressive, hasn’t seen them put in the type of performances that would leave other teams scared to play them.

While Jurgen Klopp’s side have racked up the results, it’s only a matter of time before someone takes advantage of their performances being disappointing and given Spurs’ talent then surely they’re capable of being that team.

If that wasn’t enough for Reds fan to be concerned about their Premier League title hopes, Jenas claim that he doesn’t see Man City losing to Man United as arguably that it’s the hardest game left and if they don’t drop all three points there; it’s hard to see them not winning the league.
