OPINION
Although it’s not the biggest transfer news in the world, it seems that some Liverpool fans are blown away by the signing of young goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom from Blackburn. The 17-year-old was on the bench for the Reds’ Under-18s as they played against Everton in the Under-18s Premier League on Saturday after Barry Lewtas confirmed via the Liverpool Echo that he has been added to the squad. It is a smart move by Lewtas, who needs another goalkeeper adding to his Under-18s side due to an injury for regularly number one Vitezslav Jaros. However some Reds fans have gone a bit over the top with their reaction to the news. Winterbottom could become a top goalkeeper in the future, but dubbing him as world class and being the “next Neuer” are a tad extreme. Hopefully he does end up that way and Liverpool will offer him everything he needs to reach that level. For now though, it just seems like the Reds needed a back-up option for their Under-18s.
