This season’s Premier League title race is closer than it has ever been, and Liverpool fans are obviously hoping that the heartbreak of the 2014 season can be avenged.

That was the closest the Reds had been to winning the title in a quite a while, which only reinforces the magnitude of what could lay in store for them at the end of the campaign.

What the entire Liverpool fans will love though, is what Jamie Carragher said about the lack of pressure the team are under compared to their fierce rivals Manchester City.

“I think the pressure has come off Liverpool slightly because I think everyone expects City to win the league now. It may not be the worst thing in the world if City go in front. If you’re up there, you’re there to be shot at,” he told Sky Sports.

Carragher is absolutely spot on here. If anything, City are under more pressure, as ultimately, it is their title to surrender. Throw into the mix that they are competing for the quadruple this year, and the pressure on them would have intensified even further.

Obviously that does not mean that Liverpool can be complacent from here on out, but they know that they do not have anything to lose compared to Pep Guardiola. Liverpool fans will love that the pressure is on City instead of them, as it definitely gives them an edge.

Carragher is also spot on about City being at the top of the table, as it means that they are there to be targeted. They will have the added pressure of having to win every single game from now on to prevent Liverpool overtaking them.

Ideally, Jurgen Klopp would like to be first at the moment, without a shadow of a doubt. However, the more pressure they pile on City, the closer in reach the title will be.
