OPINION
Dejan Lovren is a funny one really. The Liverpool defender played in a World Cup and Champions League final last season, and yet is still regarded as so much of risk that most fans would probably argue that he isn’t good enough to make the Reds’ first team. That being said, Jurgen Klopp’s men have undergone something of an injury crisis at the back in recent times, and even the most sceptical of fan would probably agree that Lovren is better than no centre back at all. That’s why it will be seen as a timely boost by Jurgen Klopp and his staff that the Croatian made his comeback from injury in his nation’s 2-1 defeat to Hungary on Sunday. Predictably, however, the fans saw it somewhat differently, with many seemingly dismayed that he could be available again for selection at Anfield. You can kind of understand why that might be. Lovren is prone to a howler, and his concentration lapses far too often for a top level defender. By contrast, prior to his injury, Joe Gomez seemed to be getting better by the game, and his comeback will no doubt elicit a much higher level of enthusiasm. Even then though, Lovren’s return must only be a good thing for a squad that looked very thin not too long ago.
