Sir Alex Ferguson believes Liverpool are going to win the league, according to Jonathan Walters.

The former Stoke City striker claims that he has it on good authority that the legendary Manchester United manager believes that his one time bitter rivals will pip Manchester City to the title.

Speaking on Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, he said: “I was chatting with Phil Bardsley and I’m gonna drop a name here, he was sat with Sir Alex Ferguson.

“He sat with him and he thinks Liverpool are going win it.

“He thinks Liverpool because he thinks United will get something out of the City game.”

OPINION

Sir Alex Ferguson knows a thing or two about winning titles, and even if Liverpool fans aren’t too keen on the legendary United boss, his endorsement must be a source of some comfort. It’s a really strange situation at the moment, because for all Manchester City hold the mathematical advantage, you can’t help feeling that the momentum has just shifted slightly in Liverpool’s favour. City have two massive clashes against United and Tottenham still to come, and for all the Reds won’t want to see Jurgen Klopp’s men life the title, they absolutely will not want to roll over against Man City either. It makes for an unholy alliance where you will have the Kop cheering for their most bitter of rivals, but if it means they get their hands on a first league title for 29 years, they won’t care one tiny bit. Hopefully, Sir Alex’s prophecy comes true.
