OPINION
New Balance have really pulled it out of the bag for Liverpool over the last couple of seasons. The American sportswear brand have managed to put together some really top drawer stuff for the Reds, with simple, striking designs that have harked back to some of the club’s most classic sides while still keeping things modern and exciting. That being said, if the reactions if a large number of the Kop faithful is anything to go by, they might just have shot themselves in the foot with next season’s home shirt. The kit has bean “leaked” by Footy Headlines, who, to their credit have a pretty decent record with this kind of thing, and it’s certainly dividing opinion. The shirt is reminiscent of the iconic 1982 strip worn by the Anfield side, with a brighter of Red and a pinstripe running down it. The emblem is embossed in gold, and it really is a Crown Paints away from the shirt worn by Kenny Dalglish and the like back in the day. That being said, there’s something amiss with it. It’s hard to put your finger on it, but compared to the kits of the past two seasons, this one looks dated, and almost tacky. Liverpool fans will certainly be hoping that this leak proves to be a red herring.
