Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that Liverpool have “everything” and that their improvements all over the pitch make them one of the best sides he has ever faced.

The two clubs are locked in one of the tightest Premier League title battles for years, with the lead changing hands multiple times throughout the season – Liverpool currently leading the Argentine’s side, who have a game in hand.

Speaking of his rivals in the north west, Guardiola said that the positional play used to be a weak point for the Reds but that the changes this season have made them one of the most formidable opponents of his career.

He told Sky Sports: “They are one of the strongest teams I have faced. They have everything. They have good tactics, they have great defensive strength, they have very good high pressing and they have a very good counter-attack.

“They had some problems with their positional play before, but that has improved a lot too. Liverpool have everything. That’s why it’s so close.”

Opinion

You know you are doing something right when the manager of your fiercest rival this season is singing your praises – but it will mean absolutely nothing to the Anfield faithful if they cannot beat City to the Premier League title. As Guardiola says, Liverpool are the complete package this season, having sorted out issues running through their side with the arrival of the likes of Alisson and Virgil van Dijk in recent transfer windows to shore up their back line. Manager Jurgen Klopp also deserves a lot of credit for playing an exciting brand of football while remaining resolute in defence, and they have had to be on top form at both ends of the pitch to remain in this title race. Only time will tell who is lifting that trophy come the end of the season but whoever does secure victory you know that they will be well deserved winners. They may even receive respectful applause from those finishing as runners up based on what Guardiola has had to say.
