Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed the two word reaction he had when he saw Liverpool score a last minute winner against Tottenham.

The Reds managed to see off Spurs courtesy of a Toby Alderweireld own goal in the dying minutes of Sunday’s game, the three points ensuring that Jurgen Klopp and his men climbed back to sit two points ahead of City, who have a game in hand.

Speaking ahead of their midweek clash against Cardiff, Guardiola revealed the two words he uttered when he saw Hugo Lloris punch the ball into his own man and into the back of the net.

He told reporters, as quoted by Football.London: “When you see that you say ‘ah s***’.”

Opinion

Do not worry Pep – that was likely an utterance in every house of a City persuasion on Sunday evening. The Reds will no doubt count themselves a little fortunate to have taken all three points of Spurs after an enthralling, but evenly matched, clash and it was a win which puts all the pressure back on their title rivals. It just goes to show that the teams are both keeping a close eye on how the other gets on and you can be sure that there will be plenty of people on Merseyside watching when City take on relegation strugglers Cardiff City on Wednesday. This has been one of the most exciting to-and-fro title battles the Premier League has seen for years and it does not look like it is going to stop providing the entertainment football fans crave any time soon. What will be interesting to see is Jurgen Klopp’s reaction, if any, to City’s result.
