Liverpool have delivered a record-breaking price tag to Real Madrid as the two European giants discuss the potential transfer of Sadio Mane this summer, according to journalist Eduardo Inda.

The reputable Spanish reporter, who is the current director of Ok Diario and former chief of El Mundo and Marca, is quoted by his current publication speaking on Mega TV programme El Chiringuito De Jugones as revealing that the Reds responded with a £196million (€230million) fee for their Senegalese star.

He is quoted as saying: “One of the priorities for Real Madrid is Sadio Mané. The only problem is that Liverpool has asked for 230 million euros.

“Madrid have spoken with Liverpool and they have given them this number … in Madrid they have said that they have gone crazy.”

A €230million fee would break the world record fee set by Neymar’s move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain back in 2017, with BBC Sport reporting that the Brazilian cost the French giants €222million.

Opinion

Liverpool might well have come up with that figure in talks with the Spanish heavyweights but despite Mane’s impressive form, there is just no way he is worth that sort of money. It is more a way of saying ‘offer what you want, we are not selling’ and Zinedine Zidane might well have to look elsewhere for an explosive attacking talent. Mane’s attacking prowess has been one of the cornerstones of Liverpool’s Premier League title push this season, stepping up to the plate when the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino saw their own form dip slightly. It would take a huge offer to see the Reds sell up but as much as the Anfield faithful might argue it, he is just not a player worthy of a record breaking fee. The supporters should be able to rest easy over his future this summer, for no one is likely to be able to offer up the sort of figure that Jurgen Klopp or the transfer team at Anfield will be looking for.
