Liverpool are “determined” to sign Borussia Monchengladbach forward Thorgan Hazard in the summer transfer window, according to Foot Mercato.

The French news outlet claims that Atletico Madrid also want to sign the Belgium international, but Borussia Dortmund are currently in pole position to snap up the former Chelsea attacker.

Hazard, 26, has been in superb form for Gladbach this season and it is expected that he will be on the move in the summer.

OPINION

Do Liverpool need Hazard? Although the Belgian wide-forward has been in stunning form for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, he is not someone who could walk into Anfield and replace either Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up. Hazard has scored 12 goals and supplied 11 assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this season for the Bundesliga club, so it is not hard to see why Liverpool, Atletico and Dortmund are reportedly interested in him. Liverpool only really need Hazard though if a player like Mane was to quit Anfield in the summer, and that seems very unlikely. Klopp has decent enough back-up options for Mane and as Hazard is likely to cost a lot of money, the German boss is better off looking elsewhere. If Liverpool are going to strengthen their attack they should sign a centre-forward over a winger because Roberto Firmino, as good as he is, can be improved upon.
