Liverpool and Manchester City are going toe-to-toe in a nail biting finish in the Premier League this season, with both sides showing no signs of letting up any time soon.

Many have had their say on who they think will take the title in May, with the majority of pundits plumping for City due to their squad depth, and the fact that they won the same silverware last term.

However, BBC pundit Paul Ince believes that the Reds will pip their bittle rivals to the summit this season because he thinks that luck has been helping them along their way.

“They’re not absolutely blowing teams away, they’re just having defining moments and decisions on their side. Decisions are falling for them, and that’s what you need in the title race,” he wrote in his Paddy Power column.

“You need those decisions and the luck on your side. Liverpool aren’t even playing particularly well in the league, it’s scrappy to watch, but the end result is still the same – three points.

“They have got to go on and win it now. Chelsea is a crucial game for them because of previous memories they’ve had in the title charge. I honestly believe Liverpool will win it this season. Everything is on their side.”

Most of the Liverpool fans will love what Ince has got to say here, as he has got it absolutely spot on. There have been many tense moments this season, with the latest one coming in their 3-1 win over Southampton last Friday.

When Shane Long put the Saints ahead, the Reds supporters must have been tearing their hair out. If they had lost their match, their title quest would have pretty much been dead and buried.

The same goes for their 2-1 win over Tottenham on March 31. Like Ince pointed out, Liverpool are not playing at their best all of the time, but they still managed to scrap the win out of somewhere thanks to an own goal.

However, winning ugly is often what makes a team capable of winning silverware like the league title, and that is something that the Reds have been doing a lot this season. Their quality has not shone through in every match that they have played – that is for sure.
