Gary Neville heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita and backed him to get better and better.

The Sky Sports pundit highlighted how the 24-year-old was caught out at times in the 3-1 win over Southampton before raving about the player’s ability.

Neville shared that he thought Keita would get better and better with him sharing that he just thought the player had something, before saying there can be no doubts abut his ability going forward.

“I think Keita to be fair will be really good next season as he will get better and better as I think he has got something,” said Neville on Monday Night Football (Sky Sports Premier League, Monday April 8th, 19:31).

“There’s no doubt he can do things going forward.”

OPINION

Neville isn’t one to heap praise on a Liverpool player for the sake of it, so his opinion is worth taking note of. The former Manchester United player clearly believes Keita’s 2019/20 campaign will see him actually showcase more of his ability, as it’s fair to say he has been a little disappointing this season. The midfielder arrived at Anfield in the summer from RB Leipzig with a lot of hype surrounding him but just hasn’t hit it out the park. Keita wowed in his side’s first league game of the season against West Ham and the fact that is still the highlight of his Liverpool career says so much. However it’s worth noting the midfielder got his first goal of his Reds career against Southampton on Friday, so perhaps that will give him the confidence boost to kick on sooner rather that later. While it’s nice to hear Neville back Keita to be a success at Anfield next season, Liverpool fans will be hoping he makes an impact in the games that remain.
