Gary Neville has claimed that Sky Sports is turning into “Liverpool TV” during a cheeky debate with Jamie Carragher.

The comment came after the ex-Manchester United man suggested that his former side should rest players against Manchester City in the upcoming derby, instead focussing their attentions on matches against Everton and Chelsea as they bid for the top four.

But Carragher took exception to this.

Speaking on Monday night football, he said: “Everyone is just desperate to stop Liverpool winning the league. Manchester United, Everton, Sky Sports, you’re all at it.”

Neville then retorted: “It’s been Liverpool TV for the last month.”

OPINION

Even when he’s joking, Neville can’t help sounding just a little bit bitter about this title race. You can tell that it’s tearing him apart to see his two biggest rivals going toe to toe over the Premier League trophy, and it must be a real Sophie’s Choice for him as to who he’d rather see lift it come May. He has admitted in the past that the prospect of seeing the Reds crowned as champions would be too painful to bear, and that he is backing City by default, but he must be getting a little bit worried now, especially after that resounding 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. Sky have been giving a lot of attention to Liverpool, but equally, they have been putting a lot of focus on Manchester City as well. What do you expect when the two are embroiled in the most exciting title race for best part of a decade? If United were up there challenging for a title, it would be Man United TV, but the fact of the matter is, they’re not.
