Jamie Redknapp has named a trio of Liverpool players in his Premier League team of the week following the Reds’ 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

The Sky Sports pundit, writing in his column for the Daily Mail, picked out Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and Roberto Firmino in his best 11 from this weekend’s Premier League action.

All three put in exceptional performances, with van Dijk catching the eye late on with a brilliant piece of defending in a two on one situation, and Robertson laying on the assist that allowed Firmino to give the Reds an early lead.

OPINION

All three players were wonderful yesterday, and Redknapp is absolutely right to pick them out for praise, but he could have put in just about any Liverpool player. You can’t underestimated how big this win was for Liverpool, and to pull out a result like this, when a draw seemed all but certain, feels like the hallmark of champions. You need luck and perseverance to win a title, and the Reds showed both in abundance yesterday afternoon. Things could have been a whole lot different, and had they failed to find a winner, there would have been a dour sense of foreboding going into the rest of the season. Instead, however, the buoyancy that will come from a win like this could be the key to propelling them towards a run that could ultimately hand them a first title in 29 years. If they manage it, this will be the result that people look back on as the turning point.
