Chris Sutton has urged Celtic to make a move for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent after dazzling on loan at Rangers.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at the Hoops’ bitter Glasgow rivals and impressed in Sunday afternoon’s Old Firm clash, scoring an equaliser in an eventual 2-1 defeat.

BT and BBC pundit Sutton believes that his former side should look to pull off an audacious swoop for the Reds’ youngster from Anfield.

Writing in his Daily Record column, he said: “The points gap is increasing at the top of the table but let’s not be fooled as this Celtic team still needs a major summer rebuild.

“They could do a lot worse than trying to pinch Ryan Kent from under the noses of Rangers.

“Why not? The on-loan Liverpool winger would improve Celtic and the left-hand side of the team is an issue with Scott Sinclair’s performances now so flat.”

OPINION

If Celtic managed to sign Ryan Kent in the summer, after he has impressed so constantly for Rangers this campaign, there could well be riots outside of Ibrox. The winger has been a standout performer for Steven Gerrard’s men this year, and the Gers will be desperate to sign him. Losing him to his parent club would be a blow, albeit an expected one, but losing him to their bitterest rivals would be absolutely devastating. Whether the Reds would do that to Gerrard is difficult to say, but at the end of the day, business is business, and there isn’t always room for sentimentality. It’s testament to how much Kent has grown this season that Sutton is even suggesting that he could play for his beloved Celtic, but while talk of transfer is bound to rumble on for some time, there’s nothing to suggest that the youngster shouldn’t be given a shot at the big time at Anfield. He’s earned it, surely.
