Liverpool have been hailed by Alan Shearer following their away victory at Cardiff City, which saw the Reds retain their place at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds defeated Neil Warnock’s team 2-0 on Sunday and Shearer revealed that he didn’t think Jurgen Klopp’s side submitted a spectacular performance despite them winning.

However Shearer was then quick to heap praise on the Reds as he revealed he had been left in awe of how they had continued to deliver high-quality performance this season.

“Jurgen Klopp’s side were not spectacular at Cardiff but they again responded to City’s win over Tottenham on Saturday and got the job done,” said Shearer for The Sun.

“They never looked in danger, even at 0-0 with 35 minutes left. They kept going and you just felt that they would get the breakthrough in the end.

“The standard of football from both Liverpool and City has just been incredible this season.

“They both deserve huge credit for the staggering amount of good football they are serving up in this exhilarating title race.”

Opinion:

Liverpool have been truly unbelievable this season as have City so it’s no wonder Shearer’s mind has been blown. Whatever happens in this title race, Liverpool are back, and will be challenging for the title in seasons to come, there’s no doubt about it. The fact that Liverpool are currently on 88 points with three games remaining in outstanding, and it’s even more impressive that they’ve not won the title already, that is how competitive this Premier League season has been. Realistically, the Reds are not going to be putting on showstopping performances every single week, but it doesn’t matter. As long as Klopp’s men keep on plugging away and winning their remaining games, they are in with every chance of Premier League glory. Liverpool technically do have the easier run in as well, as Manchester City still have Manchester United to play on Wednesday, to the delight of the Liverpool faithful. This is the best chance that Liverpool have had in recent years to bring the Premier League title to Anfield, and a Manchester United win this week against City could all but confirm the league.
