Grujic deserves Liverpool chance

Liverpool have been imperious this season.

Aside from a minor stumble around the start of this year when they picked up a series of underwhelming draws, the Reds have looked every inch the European superpower, but there are still areas to be improved upon.

While the front three has been typically lethal, the defence has looked more solid than it has done for many years since Virgil van Dijk joined last January.

The midfield, on the other hand, has been less impressive. It’s not that the players at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal haven’t performed, it’s more a case of the German not really knowing his best combination in the centre of the park, and that surely presents opportunities for players to breakthrough.

You would expect Alex Oxlade-Chameberlain to waltz back into the side, and Fabinho has been a revelation in recent months, but that leaves a third spot available, and Marko Grujic must fancy his chances.

The midfielder has been in impressive form on loan at Hertha Berlin this season, and scored his fourth goal of the campaign against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old has consistently been one of the Bundesliga side’s best performers this season, with him often the hero, and he must surely deserve his shot at the first team picture at Anfield time soon.

It would be a shame to let a player of his quality just walk away from the club, and he has proven that he is capable of cutting it in an elite European league.

He’s not the finished article by any means, but he is a talent worth taking a gamble on.
