OPINION
Liverpool centre back Joel Matip produced another strong performance in his team’s 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Sunday. The Cameroon international looked comfortable at the back for much of the game as Neil Warnock’s side rarely troubled him. In fact, he was given plenty of time and space to bring the ball forward with regularity. That was a big part of his game today and he did it really well. His use of the ball was excellent, even if he always looks a bit unsteady when he dribbles out from the back. His turnaround in recent months has been phenomenal to witness and he is now very much one of the first names on the team sheet for Jurgen Klopp. The German clearly rates the former Schalke man, because he continues to start him even though Joe Gomez is now back from injury. He really is going from strength to strength at the moment and we saw even more evidence of that in the Welsh capital.

First half thoughts: Matip and Hendo have been the stand outs for me. Virgil and Naby also class. The front 3 have been alright in the link up play, but need to be more consistent in front of goal if we stand a chance of winning

Trent's delivery so far today has been shocking. Matip's looked as dangerous as anyone bringing the ball forward. #CARLIV #LFC

Not a bad performance so far, created enough to be ahead. Matip and VVD probably our best players, which isn't ideal vs Cardiff

Should really have scored in that half.
Matip has been very impressive again. Most of our fluidity going forward comes from him. Our midfield needs to be braver going forward.
