OPINION

Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold certainly didn’t produce his finest performance in his team’s 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Sunday. The 20-year-old looked shaky defensively from the very first minute and he really struggled to get to grips with Bluebirds winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing. He was given the runaround for much of the game, particularly the first half, as he failed to replicate his excellent attacking form when asked to defend. This has been a bit of a bug-bear of Alexander-Arnold’s in all honesty. He is a phenomenal young right back, there’s no doubt about that, but he can be susceptible defensively at times. After seeing what Mendez-Laing did to him there will be plenty of Liverpool supporters worrying about how he’ll do up against the likes of Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele in the Champions League. Still, he didn’t play awfully. He just needs to ensure that he’s concentrated defensively at all times in future.
